The Adequate Blog

I now know that I’ll be auditioning for AGT at the  Greater Tacoma Convention & Trade Center some time on the 25th or 26th of April (Times TBD).  My friend Steve Taylor’s got some inside information for me, based on a colleague’s experiences:

• No, you won’t be auditioning for Piers, Mrs. Osborne and the Hoff straight off.  Expect 3 or 4 levels of auditioning with production assistants, interns etc.
• The official web site says “you may have up to 90 seconds to audition”. Woah. 90 seconds is really short when you’re a magician
• They’re looking for the really good, the really bad and the really unusual. I’m pretty sure I fit into one of those categories
• Your posted time may have no relation to your actual audition time. Pack a lunch. Bring a book.

More as this proceeds. I should get an a scheduled time some time this week. I hope.

Ok. I know I have more than a few magicians reading this blog now (Hi, folks!)

If you had to choose one, and just one trick to carry around with you - not one item but one trick which you would do when demonstrating your skill in a casual environment … that would that trick be?

I’ve thought about this a lot and to be honest, I have to go with Dan Harlan’s Starcle from his “Impromptu Magic” series. I like it because it’s quick, it’s pretty, suprising, and you can do it with any square or squareish piece of paper. Even a tissue from a tissue box (as I learned on a visit to the dentist the week before last).

… of course, I think I might, if pushed, go for one of the goofy things out of Mac King’s book Tricks With Your Head for the schitck of it.  There’s something about the Hiccup Cure trick that just amuses the heck out of me.

What trick would you choose?

… I know, it’s been a few weeks. My apologies folks - life got on top of me… but!

I have a number of things on the stove right now:

• Masters of Illusion - Some Observations and Commentary
• More Things You Will See At Faire
• My “America’s Got Talent” Adventure (the last week of April)
• And yes, more rambling about secrets, creating magic, and occasionally causing people to pass beverage through their nose

Just so y’all know - I will in fact be auditioning for America’s Got Talent the weekend of April 25 and 26 in Seattle. The time and location are To Be Announced, and as soon as they are, I’ll announce them here.

I’m also going to try and post more often and link to more new items as that seems to be something the Blogosphere ™ enjoys.
